YOUTH OF THE YEAR
Elie Weitzman

Temple Israel of Great Neck

Elie Weitzman is a senior at Great Neck South High School and has been a member of the Temple Israel of Great Neck community since elementary school. He has led services, read Torah and Megillah, and taken part in various Jewish activities like the local USY chapter for years, and is currently a member of the youth program in which he and his peers discuss a myriad of topics—from global politics to interpersonal relationships—through a Jewish lens each month. In addition to his involvement in his community at home, he is also a longtime camper at Camp Ramah in the Berkshires, where he has gone every summer for 8 years now. This upcoming summer, he will be working as a counselor there, continuing to take part in the Jewish experience at his home away from home. In his free time, Elie enjoys playing baseball, ultimate Frisbee, walking his dog, and skateboarding with his friends. Additionally, he has a passion for the performing arts. He participates heavily in his school’s theatre program, as well as being a co-captain of the improvisational comedy troupe. That passion has extended outside of school as well, where he has written a short film and performed standup comedy. Next year, he will be attending Washington University in St. Louis with the intention of majoring in political science, a passion he nurtured in high school as a member of the debate and Model Congress clubs.

He would like to thank his parents, friends, teachers, and everyone at Temple Israel of Great Neck for creating such an inviting and welcoming environment to grow up in, as well as extend a big Mazel Tov to his fellow honorees. Support Elie Weitzman by placing an ad in his honor.
