Michael Feinberg joined Temple Beth El in 2007 and quickly became a familiar voice at the shul. He frequently leads the davening and reads the Haftorah on Shabbat as well as on the High Holidays. He is also one of the regulars of the daily minyan, a trustee of the Shul, and both he and his wife, Cherie, have been honorees at its Annual Gala Dinner as well as Simchat Torah.
Like so many of his fellow congregants, Michael is a “Brooklyn Boy” having been raised in Crown Heights and Midwood. He attended the Brooklyn Jewish Center and East Midwood Jewish Center Talmud Torahs. He was fortunate to have had his father teach him his synagogue skills and was able to lead the East Midwood’s Junior Congregation throughout his years at Brooklyn College and subsequently. Many of his summers were spent at Camp Ramah as a camper and then on staff. He graduated with a B.A. in Education and enjoyed teaching for three and a half years in Brooklyn Elementary School as well as giving Bar Mitzvah lessons at a Talmud Torah in Mill Basin. He was accepted to NYU College of Dentistry, became a dentist and subsequently an endodontist with offices in Boro Park and Midwood. Dr. Fienberg just retired in August 2023 after having practiced for 48 years.
Michael and his wife, Cherie, have always been involved in Jewish causes. Their children, Stephanie and Jennifer attended the Brandeis Day School in Lawrence. Bot he and Cherie were each on the Board of Trustees of the Brandeis Day School as well as guests of honor at its gala. Support of Israel and the entire Jewish Community has always been of the utmost importance to them. They have been to Israel over a dozen times, support and participate in AIPAC and its activities, take an active role in UJA. They maintain membership in Congregation Beth Shalom of Lawrence as well but since having joined Beth El, their time, efforts and friends are happily focused there.
