YOUTH OF THE YEAR
Maya Rezak
Midway Jewish Center
Maya Rezak is a Senior at the Schechter School of Long Island and an active member of Midway Jewish Center. She is so grateful to be receiving this honor!
Since 6th grade, Maya has been involved in Kadima, followed by USY. She served two years on Midway USY’s Chapter Board, first as Israel Affairs Vice President, and then as Religion/Education Vice President. Maya has also been very involved in Divisional and Regional USY, and is honored to be currently serving as METNY Regional Religion/Education Vice President. In this role, she has planned and run programs virtually, such as weeklong Sukkot challenge, Kabbalat Shabbat, and Havdalah, for teens from all around Metropolitan New York.
Maya is so lucky to have had the opportunity to spend two of her summers with USY. In 2018, she went on USY on Wheels, where she met Jewish teens from around the country and visited more than 30 states. In 2019, Maya travelled to Poland and Israel with USY. During this trip, she visited many important historical Jewish sites and was given an amazing chance to connect to her Jewish heritage and identity.
At Schechter, Maya has been immersed in Jewish learning for over a decade. Over all these years, she has gained a deep understanding and love of Jewish values and the Hebrew language. Outside of classes, Maya is Co-President of Israel Club, a Peer Connector, where she mentors freshmen through their transition to high school, and a copy editor of Paw Print, her school’s magazine.
Maya would like to thank Schechter, USY, and all of the people in her life who have helped her become who she is today. A special thank you to the Midway Jewish Center Community which has been her second home and has made a big impact in her life. Support Maya Rezak by placing an ad in her honor.
