Midway Jewish Center 2026

Dr. Jeffrey Amer

Dr. Jeffrey Amer grew up in Hewlett. where his parents were active members of the Jewish community. After completing his pediatric training in the Bronx, Jeffrey triumphantly returned to Long Island, moving to Syosset with his USY sweetheart and now wife, Audrey Peltz.

After checking out all the local synagogues, they joined Midway Jewish Center, where they have been members for over 40 years. They have four wonderful children and three grandchildren. Jeffrey retired from his local pediatric practice two years ago. As an observant practicing Conservative Jew, Jeffrey has been a long-time regular at morning minyan. He has been engaged in the spiritual practice of Mussar and has facilitated many classes, both remotely and also at Midway Jewish Center.

Jeffrey is a passionate amateur woodworker, a medium through which he further expresses his spirituality.

Hannah Rivner

Hannah Rivner is a senior at Syosset High School and an active member of Midway Jewish Center. She attends Shabbat and holiday services with her family and is deeply involved in Jewish teen leadership and community life. Hannah has been a dedicated member of Midway’s United Synagogue Youth (USY) chapter since Junior Kadima in third grade. This continued through high-school where she has served as both regional and international executive outreach vice president and then regional executive vice president. In these roles, she helped nearly double the New York region’s membership from 2022 to 2024, rewrote the international constitution to better reflect the needs of teens, and created and ran twelve teen-focused educational programs that fostered meaningful Jewish engagement.

Hannah also founded the Annual Halloween Candy Drive at Midway Jewish Center in tenth grade, which collects and organizes leftover Halloween candy and then uses the kosher candy to provide the Midway community with a sweet treat after Shabbat services, while distributing the non-kosher candy to a local foodbank.

Outside of Midway, Hannah is a leader at her school. She is heavily involved in Syosset High School’s broadcast journalism program, holding leadership roles both in front of and behind the camera. Her work earned her the “3rd Best Overall Short Broadcast” award at the Broadcast Awards for Senior High. Hannah currently is co-executive producer of Syosset’s morning announcement show.

Hannah also is a member of the National Honor Society and the American Sign Language Honor Society, serving on its executive board as leader since 2024, where she oversees programming, coordinates events, and continues to promote accessibility and inclusion within her school community.

In addition to academics, Hannah is a three-season varsity track & field athlete, competing in cross country, winter track, and spring track & field as a sprinter and pole vaulter.

In recognition of her leadership and impact, Hannah was honored as the 2024 recipient of the Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island Region Women’s League for Conservative Judaism L’dor V’dor “Women of Achievement” Award.

Hannah is honored to receive this award and is grateful to her parents, Asher and Danielle Rivner; all of her beloved grandparents; her little brother, Leo; her rabbi, Joel Levenson; and the Midway community for their unwavering support and encouragement. Mazel Tov to all of the other honorees!
