FJMC Joins Partnership to Combat Antisemitism.
The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism (USCJ), Women’s League for Conservative Judaism (WLCJ), Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs (FJMC) and ADL (the Anti-Defamation League) have agreed to form a partnership aimed at combating the alarming rise in antisemitic rhetoric and violence through education and advocacy.

FJMC Condemns the Tisha B’Av Chaos.
Allan Kahan, President of the FJMC, made the following statement with respect to the position of the USCJ and Rabbi Jacob Bluemental, and the interference of the chaos which ensured when non-Orthodox Jews attempted to pray in their space during Tisha B’Av.

February Meeting- Rabbi David Cavil
Director of Financial Aid and Operations at Academy for Jewish Religion.
M.Div. David has a professional background in non-profit finance, operations, management, and fundraising. Prior to joining the AJR staff he was the Controller of the NYC Audubon Society. Cavill was ordained as a rabbi at AJR in 2017. He is a graduate of the Jewish Theological Seminary’s undergraduate joint program with Columbia University and attended Yale Divinity School where he earned the degree of Master of Divinity. He is the Treasurer at the Forest Hills Jewish Center where he is a member and teaches in the religious school at the Reform Temple of Forest Hills. He was an administrative director for Congregation Beth Simchat Torah. In 2014 Cavill completed a certificate in mixology from the Columbia School of Bartending. Rabbi David helped develop a Havdalah service for a parent of a Gender- Transitioning Child.

Growing up on Long Island, Rabbi Dave was an active member and officer of METNY United Synagogue Youth (USY). After graduating from Massapequa High School, he received his BA in Politics, Philosophy, and Law/History from Binghamton University and has received master’s degrees from both New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and the Jewish Theological Seminary’s William Davidson Graduate School of Jewish Education. Before attending JTS, Rabbi Dave worked as the Director of Special Projects at the 92nd Street Y. During his time in Rabbinical School, he focused on leadership and professional development in the Jewish community. He has also served in leadership positions at Camp Ramah in the Berkshires, the Foundation for Jewish Camp, and United Synagogue Youth. Rabbi Dave is currently the Executive Director of Hofstra University Hillel and lives in Merrick with his family.

Dr. Steve Mandell has started the Imagine Life Initiative. Imagine life where mental health issues can be discussed openly. Where we can learn and discuss mental health stigma. Where we can remove the stigma associated with mental health issues. Where everyone can be included.

Rabbi Joshua Halickman, The Sports Rabbi, is the founder of the website, www.sportsrabbi.com and has been covering Israeli sports since 2004. The Sports Rabbi has gone to over 4,000 live sporting events in 25+ countries looking for the most exciting and intriguing stories. Josh has lectured to over 10,000 people across the globe about Zionism through Israeli sports.
Tuesday, February 22, 2022: Sports Affinity Group – Rabbi Shira Rosenblum – Maccabiah Archery Gold Medal Winner
Rabbi Shira M.T. Rosenblum is a rabbi at the Jacksonville Jewish Center in Jacksonville, FL. She is a competitive archer and Level II archery instructor who strives to combine her passion for archery with her love of Judaism. She represented Maccabi USA at the 20th Maccabiah Games in Israel in 2017 and was recently appointed as Archery Chair of the USA Organizing Committee for the 21st Maccabiah which is set to take place in 2022. She is now training to compete alongside a growing team of American Jewish archers and is always on the lookout for potential new team members.

If you’re coming in from outside the area, plan on arriving Thursday. Dinner Thursday night and Breakfast/Lunch are available at an addl. fee if you wish to remain on campus. Sunday meals & lodging with Monday departure is also available.
